my favorite person

i have been lucky enough to meet the sexiest dude alive. back in milwaukee when i was 16 and i walked into a skate shop with my mom. he had a beard and dressed like a grandpa before it was cool to dress like a grandpa. he was an artist before everyone was an artist, and he's still funnier than all of you jerks. he turned 37 on Friday.

i made him a paper mache mobile to put above his new computer.

book report: LEARNING TO LOVE YOU MORE

the art project www.learningtoloveyoumore.com is great, but this book is even more amazing because the two artists that give the assignments studied each of the over 5000 entries they received over the past 5 years and picked the most challenging, heartbreaking, and hilarious ones to present.
my favorite assignments are the ones that turn out to be the most personal and honest:
assignment 52: write the phone call you wish you could have
assignment 53: give advice to yourself in the past
the ones about interviewing someone who experienced war were pretty interesting too.

assignment 30: take a picture of strangers holding hands.

assignment 42: list 5 events from 1984

this book is awesome. the website is still accepting entries and still giving new assignments randomly.

this just in: rufus is cooping judy's steez!

on sunday night we went to the hollywood bowl to see rufus wainwright's tribute to judy garland's 1961 carnegie hall performance. i want to act like i knew it was going to be this rad, but i had no idea.





at least 90% of the audience were gay men. those dudes are my favorite. rufus's whole family was there and they joined him on stage and made everyone jealous that they weren't part of the wainwright family. at one point, his mother apologized to the orchestra for playing the piano off key, and rufus said, annoyed, "mother. i'm wearing a robe, on stage, at the hollywood bowl. there's a lot going on."





somewhere over the gay rainbow there is a mixed tape where rufus sings "little sister" on track 4.
